3 Arrested After Assault Rifle, Pressure Cooker Found in Car Near O'Hare

Three people were arrested after multiple guns and a pressure cooker were found in their car when they were pulled over near O’Hare Airport.

According to police, officers saw a car speeding as it departed the airport on Saturday morning. Officers then pulled the car over and discovered a handgun inside. After a more thorough search by police, officers also found an AR-15 assault rifle and a pressure cooker in the trunk, a police statement said.

After interrogating the three individuals involved, police determined that the pressure cooker was not meant to be weaponized, and that the three people posed no threat to the upcoming Bank of America Chicago Marathon, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday morning.

Increased police presence is expected during the marathon, with over 1000 undercover officers and agents from the FBI and Department of Homeland Security also assisting in security for the event.

The department says that patrols have also been increased around Soldier Field and Wrigley Field, which will both host games on Monday.
