3 Oak Park Attacks Under Investigation

Victims reported the offender approached them from behind and demanded money

Oak Park Police are investigating three attacks on female residents within the past 10 days, the most recent reported late on Monday.

The incidents occurred around midnight near the area of Lake and Ridgeland, Oak Park Cmdr. LaDon Reynolds said.

"That's a lot," said Carol Smith, referring to the number of attacks. "I would think that would be a lot in any neighborhood. That's frightening. That's really spooky."

Victims have reported the offender approached them from behind, placed them in a chokehold and demanded money.

"It's very scary," said Oak Park resident Ruby Lewis. "They can not only mug you, they can kill you."

There have been no reported injuries and no indication of a weapon.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s who stands about six feet tall and has a medium build. He is further described as wearing a light-colored jacket and dark hat.

Oak Park police have increased patrols in the area and ask that anyone with information should contact the police at 708-386-3800 or by sending email to police@oak-park.us.
