3 Killed in Fiery Crash on Chicago's South Side

Three people were killed in a fiery crash early Friday on Chicago's far South Side, authorities said.

The three were in a 2016 Chevy sedan that struck a pole just after 1 a.m. in the 3300 block of East 100th Street near the bridge over the Calumet River, according to police.

The sedan was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it suddenly hit the pole, flipped onto its roof and caught fire, police said.

Three people inside were pronounced dead at the scene.

The street remained closed between Commercial and North Avenue as authorities investigated the scene.

Police said the crash remained under investigation Friday morning. A cause was not immediately known.
