21-Year-Old Man Accused of Trying to Kill Female Officer

Austin Foster is accused of repeatedly punching Farmington officer Jennifer Parkinson in the head and face

A domestic battery suspect who was shot by an Illinois police officer is accused of trying to kill the officer.

Illinois State Police say 21-year-old Austin E. Foster of Elmwood was charged Tuesday in Fulton County Circuit Court with attempted murder of a peace officer, aggravated battery, disarming a peace officer and domestic battery.

Foster is accused of repeatedly punching Farmington officer Jennifer Parkinson in the head and face, the Peoria Journal Star reports.

State police say Foster attacked Parkinson after she pulled him over Sunday afternoon. They say Parkinson was able to grab her pistol and fire one shot at Foster.

Foster is expected to appear in court Wednesday to meet with his court-appointed attorney.

Parkinson is on paid leave while the police department investigates the shooting.
