Two people were found dead in the heart of downtown in north suburban Lake Forest Wednesday morning.
Authorities said they were called to a parking lot around 6:20 a.m. for a report of gunfire in the 600 block of North Western Avenue. There, just steps from the Lake Forest Metra Station, they found a man dead and a 27-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds.
The woman was transported to Lake Forest Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.
A preliminary investigation indicated the shooting may have been related to a domestic dispute between the pair, Lake Forest police said in a release.
Crime scene tape surrounded a Dunkin Donuts coffee shop near the scene, leaving the store closed for hours after the shooting.
"I was shocked," said nearby resident Diane Cooper. "Stuff like this doesn't happen in Lake Forest."
The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the case.
