2 Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Mundelein

Autopsies will be conducted later Wednesday afternoon, police said

Two people were found dead and another injured Wednesday morning in a murder-suicide at a Mundelein townhome.

Mundelein Police said 22-year-old Alina S. Rybnikova was discovered dead around 1:40 a.m. in the garage of a home in the 1300 block of Newport Street. Police Chief Raymond Rose said the woman had been stabbed and bludgeoned with a baseball bat.

Police also found a 44-year-old man dead in a vehicle about 300 feet from the home. The man, identified as Gennadiy Plaksa of the 700 block of East Rand Grove Lane in Palatine, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

Rose said it appeared Rybnikova arrived home Tuesday evening and was encountered by Plaksa, the boyfriend of the victim's mother. A struggle likely occurred, Rose said, and Rybnikova apparently was dragged into the garage.

The mother of the victim arrived sometime later, and Plaksa jumped on her from behind, handcuffed her and bound her with tape and beat her, Rose said. From 9 p.m. Tuesday to about 1 a.m. Wednesday, Rose said Plaksa likely had her subdued. She eventually got away.

"It appears he was waiting for the mother to come home, but the daughter came home first," Rose said.

It also appears Plaksa and the victim's mother had been in a relationship that came to an end after two years. Rose said the relationship's end appears to be the motive for the struggle and murder.

"She was ending this relationship with Mr. Plaksa who did not want the relationship to end," Rose said.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is assisting in what is believed to be a murder/suicide, he said. Autopsies will be conducted later Wednesday afternoon.

Mundelein Police said the incident was not a random act of violence and "everything is being done to solve this case as quickly as possible."
