6-Year-Old Killed, Boy Hurt After Being Ejected From Car in South Side Accident: CFD

Two children were ejected from a vehicle, one of them killed, in a tragic crash on Chicago’s South Side Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. near 47th and Halsted Streets in the city's Canaryville neighborhood. The boys, 6 and 8, were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital. The 6-year-old was later pronounced dead and the 8-year-old was last listed in stable condition.

Police said a Ford Expedition was headed eastbound on 47th Street when the driver, a 31-year-old man, "was unable to come to a stop" and ran a red light at Halsted Street. The Expedition, which was carrying the two children, collided with a Pontiac Torrance driven by a 61-year-old man, police said.

No citations had been issued as of Tuesday morning. An investigation remained ongoing.
