2 Charged in Shooting Outside St. Sabina Church

Two teenagers are charged in last week's shooting just outside St. Sabina church.

Rashad Richardson, 17, and a 16-year-old whose name is being withheld each face one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.

The shooting happened Friday outside the church's gymnasium, where a youth sports program was going on.  One teen was shot four times and was taken to a hospital in critical condition, while a second boy was shot once in the leg and was in serious condition.

Father Michael Pfleger, the parish priest, is perhaps the most outspoken anti-gun violence activist in the city. At a news conference after the shooting, Pfleger was brought to tears by what happened, saying he wants St. Sabina to be a safe haven for the city's youth.
