2 Injured in Head-On Collision in Hoffman Estates, Stretch of Route 59 Closed

Two men were injured in a head-on crash Friday that shut down a stretch of Route 59 in Hoffman Estates, the Cook County sherrif’s office said.

A Chevrolet was traveling northbound when it veered into the southbound lane and truck a Volkswagen headon near Shoe Factory Road, said Sophia Ansari, a spokeswoman for the sherrif’s office. The Volkswagen’s driver , a 25-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital with life-threatning injuries, Ansari said. The 21-year-old driver of the Chevrolet was taken to an area hospital with injuies that did not appear to be life threatening, she said.

Sky 5 was over the scene shortly after 4 p.m. where emergency responders were securing the scene. Two vehicles were demolished in the middle of the road with debris littered along both shoulders.

Traffic was closed on Route 59 between Golf and Shoe Factory roads.

The crash was under investigation by the sherrif’s police.
