    2-Year-Old Girl Shot in Gary, Indiana: Police

    A 2-year-old girl was shot Tuesday night in Gary, Indiana, police said. NBC 5's Patrick Fazio reports.

    A 2-year-old girl has died hours after she was shot Tuesday night in Gary, Indiana, police said.

    The shooting occurred shortly after 7 p.m. near Polk Street and 17th Avenue. Investigators were trying to determine if the girl got ahold of a gun or if someone shot her.

    The child was taken to Northlake Hospital in Indiana but was flown to Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago after he condition had stabilized. 

    As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, police said they were notified by the Cook County Coroner's office that the girl had passed away. 

    Police say they took two adults in for questioning. 

    No charges had been filed in a shooting as of Wednesday morning, authorities said.
