1 Arrested After Shooting at Northwest Indiana Walmart

The incident took place at around 3:55 p.m. on Sunday in Hobart

One person was arrested after a shooting on Sunday afternoon at a Northwest Indiana Walmart, police said.

The incident took place at around 3:55 p.m. in a Walmart located at 2936 E. 79th Ave, officials said in a statement posted on Facebook. 

A man was shot following an altercation, and transported to the hospital in stable condition, officials confirmed.

Police initially said two people were arrested for the shooting.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Hobart police said a woman who was with the shooting suspect was released, and wasn't expected to face charges.

Police also said in the post that detectives finished their interviews with the people involved in the incident, and planned to present their case to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday.

An off-duty East Chicago police officer was hailed for his quick thinking, and detaining the suspect in the shooting.
