2 Killed in Crash on Bishop Ford Expressway

The crash shut down all southbound lanes of the expressway for several hours

Two people were killed Sunday morning when a car crashed into the back of a semi truck on the Bishop Ford Expressway on Chicago’s South Side.

The crash took place around 2:30 a.m. Sunday after the semi truck had stopped or was stopping in traffic in the southbound lanes of the expressway at Cottage Grove Avenue.

The car, which Illinois State Police believe was speeding, crashed into the back of the semi truck, becoming lodged underneath it and two people inside the vehicle were killed. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the fatalities but did not have additional information.

The driver of the semi truck was not injured, according to authorities.

The crash shut down all southbound lanes of the expressway for several hours but the scene was cleared and lanes reopened just after 7 a.m.
