Citywide gun violence left at least two people dead and 19 others hurt in a 12-hour stretch to start the weekend.
The weekend’s latest fatal shooting happened Saturday in East Garfield Park.
About 5:33 a.m., residents near the 3200 block of West Huron Street heard gunfire and then found a man around 26 years of age unresponsive in a gangway, Chicago police said.
The man had three gunshot wounds and officers recovered a weapon near the body, police said.
He was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t released details on the man’s death.
On Friday, another man was killed in the same neighborhood.
The 52-year-old was shot multiple times in the abdomen, leg and back and was taken to Norwegian American Hospital, where he died, police said.

The shooting happened about 7:20 p.m. in the 3200 block of West Walnut Street, police said.
Area North detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
In non-fatal shootings, five people were wounded Saturday in the Near West Side.
The group was on the street about 2:32 a.m. in the 2400 block of West Jackson Boulevard when someone unleashed gunfire, police said. They all took themselves to area hospitals.
A 22-year-old woman went to the University of Illinois Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her leg, police said. Her condition was stabilized.
Four others went to Stroger Hospital, police said. Two 28-year-old men shot in the leg and back and a 54-year-old man hit in the back had their conditions stabilized. A 49-year-old woman who was shot in the chin is in serious condition.
Neither witnesses nor victims saw who did the shooting or know where the rounds came from, police said. Area North detectives are investigating.
A bullet struck the side of an apartment building on the street, but the man who was sleeping in one of units said he didn’t hear any gunfire.
“I was woken up by the police lights,” Giovanni said. He only gave his first name for fear of getting recognized by the large group of people he said gather on the corner nearly every weekend.
Multiple teenagers were wounded in two separate incidents Saturday.
In Gresham on the South Side, a 15-year-old boy was walking about 2:55 a.m. when two males approached him in the 300 block of West 79th Street and at least one of them opened fire, police said. The males drove off in an unknown vehicle.
The teen was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the hand, police said.
The earlier shooting wounded two 17-year-olds in Lawndale on the West Side.
The boy and girl were walking about 12:23 a.m. in the 1700 block of South Keeler Avenue when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire, police said.
The boy was hit in the chest and upper body multiple times and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.
The girl was taken to the same hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm, police said. Her condition was stabilized.
Less than half an hour later, a woman suffered a graze wound in Lake View while arguing with her ex-boyfriend.
About 12:50 a.m., the 29-year-old was arguing with him inside a home in the 400 block of West Briar Place when he opened fire, police said.
She was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center with a graze wound to the lower back, police said. Her condition was stabilized.
The ex-boyfriend was taken into custody at the scene and charges are pending, police said.
In the weekend’s first shooting, a man was wounded while driving through Roseland on the South Side.
He was in the 9800 block of South Michigan Avenue about 7 p.m. when someone in a passing SUV fired shots and grazed him in the head, Chicago police said.
The 36-year-old was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said. His condition stabilized.
The weekend’s latest shooting happened in Englewood.
A 38-year-old man was walking about 6:10 a.m. in the 7000 block of South Throop Street when someone fired a round at him, Chicago police said.
He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where his condition was stabilized, police said.
Area South detectives are investigating.
Eight other people were wounded in shootings throughout Chicago’s city limits during that stretch.
Last weekend, four people were killed and 16 others were wounded in the first weekend of summer.
