2 Dead, 11 Wounded in Shootings Since Friday Night

Two men were killed and at least 11 other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago since early Friday evening.

At about 7 p.m., a man was shot and killed in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The 28-year-old man was inside a vehicle in the 1300 block of North Springfield when at least one person walked up and fired shots, police said.

The man was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene at 7:23 p.m., according to the police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His name was withheld pending notification of his family.

A child was also in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, but was not injured, police said.

About two hours earlier, a man was shot to death in a drive-by attack in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The 26-year-old was outside in the 10400 block of South State at about 5 p.m. when someone fired shots at him from a passing vehicle, police said.

The man was shot in the chest and side and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. He had not been identified as of 7 p.m., authorities said.

The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred early Saturday on the West Side.

A man, 20, and a 17-year-old boy were shot in the 500 block of North Springfield at 1:25 a.m., police said.

The teen was shot in the ankle and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said. The 20-year-old was found at the corner of Chicago and Pulaski with a gunshot wound to the chest and arm. He was later taken to Stroger, where his condition was not immediately known.

Ten minutes earlier, two men were shot in the 3000 block of West Flournoy in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, police said. One man, 24, was shot in the shoulder, while the other man, 29, suffered a graze wound to his neck. Both men have since been treated and released from Loretto Hospital.

At about 12:24 a.m., a 24-year-old man was standing in the 1800 block of South Kildare when a red sedan pulled up and he heard shots, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper back. His condition had stabilized.

At about 10:30 p.m. Friday, two men were outside in the 1700 block of West 47th Street when a red SUV pulled up and a male inside opened fire, police said.

One man, 32, was shot in the abdomen and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in guarded condition. The other man, 27, was also taken to Stroger Hospital with two gunshot wounds to his leg, police said. His condition had stabilized.

Twenty minutes earlier, a 19-year-old man was walking in the 900 block of South Keeler when two males, one of which was armed with a handgun, exited a white SUV nearby and announced a robbery, police said.

When a struggle ensued, the man was shot in the leg, police said. The robbers then stole the man’s wallet, cash, cellphone and shoes and jumped back in the SUV, which sped away. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.

About 10 minutes earlier in the Pilsen neighborhood, a man, whose exact age was not available, was shot in the left arm about 10 p.m. in the 1800 block of South Blue Island, police said. He took himself to Stroger Hospital, but his condition was not immediately known.

At about the same time, two men were shot in the Armour Square neighborhood on the South Side.

The men, 20 and 27, were both shot at about 10 p.m. in the 3900 block of South Wells, police said. The 20-year-old man was shot in the torso, while the 27-year-old was shot multiple times in the leg. Hospital information was not immediately available.
