Police said victim sustained cut throat, bleeding on his brain, slashed eyelids and cut wrists

Bond was set at $1 million for a Milwaukee man accused of brutally attacking his friend, police said.

Michael Highsmith, 24, was arrested Sunday and charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and armed robbery.

Lake County police said highway patrol responded to Crawford Road south of Route 173 after a passing motorist saw Highsmith exit the woods with blood on him and a victim lying on the ground bleeding.

Police said the victim sustained a cut throat, bleeding on his brain, slashed eyelids, cut wrists, a dislocated shoulder, and a broken tibia and fibula.

Police said Highsmith told sheriff’s detectives that he and the victim have known each other for more than four years. Police said he admitted to attacking the victim and stealing his jewelry.
