Seventeen Chicago-area restaurants have been named among the 100 top independent restaurants in the country.
The 14 city eateries and three suburban locations were named to Restaurant Business’ “Top 100 Independents” list, which measure “the highest-grossing independent restaurants.”
The ranking looked at restaurants with no more than five locations as well as gross 2018 food and beverage sales for each location.
Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse in Chicago was the highest on the list, coming in at number six, though its two other locations in Oak Brook and Rosemont also made the cut at no. 30 and 32, respectively.
Also named from Chicago were Maple & Ash, Joe’s Seafood, RPM, Gibsons Italia, Chicago Cub, Shaw’s Crab House, Swift & Sons, Prime & Provisions, Harry Caray’s, Quartino Ristorante & Wine Bar, Hugo’s Frog Bar & Fish House, Tavern on Rush and Girl & the Goat.
A third suburban restaurant to make the cut was Bob Chinn’s in Wheeling.
The top restaurant on the 100 list was Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach, followed by Carmine’s (Times Square) in New York.
