A 15-year-old high school freshman is dead after he was shot in the city’s Austin neighborhood on Saturday night.

Police responding to a ShotSpotter alert just after 11 p.m. Saturday night discovered Anton Shaw lying on the ground near an alley with a gunshot wound to his face, according to authorities.

Shaw was pronounced dead at the scene, and he is being described by those who knew him as a great student and a great young man who was excelling in classes at Foreman College and Career Academy.

Police say that the 15-year-old lived right around the corner from where the shooting took place, but other details of the shooting remain a mystery as detectives continue to investigate the murder.
