A 14-year-old girl was shot when gunfire blasted through the door of an apartment on Chicago's South Side Monday night.
The shooting took place at around 9:45 p.m. in the 2700 block of South Indiana Avenue in the city's South Commons neighborhood, according to police.
Authorities said the girl had just walked inside an apartment with two relatives when someone opened fire outside, sending bullets flying through the closed door and striking her in the ribs and abdomen.
She was taken to Comer Children's Hospital where she remained in serious condition overnight.
The family reported that prior to entering the apartment, there were two unknown males in the hallway of the complex, according to police, who added that no one has come forward saying they witnessed the shots being fired.
Officials said neither the 14-year-old victim nor her family members were known gang members or had any criminal record, and the motive for the shooting was not known.
No one is in custody in connection with the shooting, according to police, who continue to investigate.
