13-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot in the Head in Kankakee

The boy was a member of the Kankakee Eastside Bulldogs Football League, according to the organization

A 13-year-old boy who was shot in the head on Thursday in rural Kankakee County died Saturday at a west suburban hospital.

Andrevion Jones of the 3900 block of South Main Street in Hopkins Park died Saturday morning at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

The shooting happened some time Thursday in the 200 block of North Cottage Avenue in Kankakee, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Kankakee police did not immediately return a call seeking details.

An autopsy showed he died of a gunshot wound to the head, and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

A Facebook post by the Kankakee Eastside Bulldogs Football League offered its condolences to Jones’ family for “one of our own Bulldogs.”

Hopkins Park is located about 40 miles south of Chicago, just west of the Indiana state line.
