12-Year-Old Boy Shot in Chest in City's Fernwood Neighborhood

A 12-year-old boy was one of two people shot when an unknown person opened fire on the city’s South Side on Sunday afternoon.

The boy, who was standing with a 40-year-old man in the 9900 block of South Perry at approximately 12 p.m., was shot in the chest when an unknown gunman stepped out of a silver SUV and opened fire. The older victim sustained a gunshot wound to the knee, police said.

Both victims were rushed to Roseland Hospital, and are listed in stable condition, according to authorities.

No one is in custody, and Area South Detectives are still investigating.
