An 11-year-old South Side boy was in critical condition Tuesday morning after suffering multiple bullet wounds overnight.
Those wounds, however, could all have come from the same bullet and been self-inflicted, officials said.
Police were called to a home on the 6100 block of South Marshfield Street in Englewood around 11:30 p.m. Monday in response to shots fired.
They found the boy, Nicholas Davis, with gunshot wounds to his arm, abdomen and back. Police think Davis may have shot himself, but are still investigating. They say one shot went through his arm, into his abdomen and out his back.
"There is no way my child accidentally shot himself," the boy's mother, Sharon Davis, said Tuesday.
Police recovered a gun from the home, but aren’t sure it was the weapon used in the shooting.
Sharon Davis was adamant that a gun wasn't kept in the home.
"Someone shot him," she told the Chicago Tribune. "Who knows how many friends were over there. Maybe one of them had a gun. There were no guns in that house, I know that. I've been there."
Davis is recovering at Comer's Children's Hospital.
His older brother, Jermaine, was shot just 10 days ago during an incident in Uptown. He had surgery Tuesday at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the head.
