10 Children Found Living in Squalor With Feces, ‘Little to No Food' in Ohio Home: Police

Ten children were discovered living in an Ohio home with "garbage everywhere, animal feces, and little to no food" Friday, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to the home in Mansfield just before 10 a.m. for a well-being check, according to a police report.

Upon arrival, a friend of the children's father told police that the parents had gone to the store and would be back.

Officers searched the home to find a total of 10 children living in squalor in the home, officials said.

Authorities said child services arrived on the scene and examined the residence before speaking to the parents, a 32-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman.

The children's father told the officers that he had been "trying to clean the house up but the children would not help him," according to police.

The children's grandfather arrived at the home and said he would take them while the parents cleaned the residence, officials said.

Further details were not immediately available, according to police, and the investigation remained ongoing.

It was unclear if charges would be filed in the case.
