10 Arrested Outside Woodlawn Mental Health Clinic

Ten protesters were taken into custody outside Woodlawn Mental Health Clinic

Chicago police made another round of arrests Monday night outside a South Side mental health clinic.

Ten protesters were taken into custody near Woodlawn Mental Health Clinic, at 6337 S. Woodlawn, the same facility where about two dozen workers, patients and supporters were arrested two Fridays ago.

In both instances, members of the Mental Health Movement protested Mayor Rahm Emanuel's plan to close six of 12 public facilities in Chicago.

Two weeks ago the group barricaded themselves behind steel gates, and last weekend, they showed up at an Earth Day event to confront Emanuel in person.

"The closure of mental health clinics is not a budget issue," said Toussaint Losier of the Mental Health Movement last week. "It's not a policy issue. For us it's a matter of life or death."

The group had since set up a tent across from Woodlawn and said they will not give up the fight.

Police Monday night dismantled the tents and arrested the protesters.
