Man in Custody After 1-Year-Old in Joliet Tuesday, Officials Say

Two people, including a 1-year-old child, were shot in suburban Joliet on Tuesday night, according to police.

Authorities were called to the 1000 block of North Broadway Street at approximately 9:29 p.m. Tuesday for a call of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found two victims that had been shot in the incident.

A 19-year-old man was shot and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The other victim, a 1-year-old child, was also shot and was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

A short time later, authorities identified 22-year-old Lavelle Barfield as the shooter in the incident, and arrested him after a brief foot pursuit. Barfield was taken to the Joliet Police Station, and criminal charges are pending, authorities said.

There is no clear motive for the shooting, and authorities are still investigating the incident.
