1 Dead, 1 Injured After National Guard Vehicle Crash

One person is dead and another was critically injured after an Illinois National Guard vehicle crashed in Winnebago County on Sunday.

According to Illinois State Police, the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 at approximately 11 a.m. Sunday when it went into a ditch and rolled over. 

The vehicle, which was on its way to Chicago from Fort McCoy in Wisconsin, was from the First Battalion of the 178th Infantry Regiment. 

One of the occupants in the vehicle was pronounced dead, according to WREX, and was a 30-year-old man from Chicago.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. He is listed in critical condition.

Neither person has been identified by police, pending notification of their families. 

All lanes are open on the interstate, according to authorities, and the single-vehicle crash is still under investigation.
