1 Killed, 6 Injured in Thursday Shootings Across Chicago

One man was killed and at least six other people were wounded in shootings in less than four hours Thursday on the city’s South and West sides, police said.

The man was shot to death Thursday night in the West Side Austin neighborhood, police said.

About 8:40 p.m., the 28-year-old was standing with a group of people in the 200 block of South Laramie when two people jumped out of a nearby white van and shot him, according to Chicago Police. The man was shot in the back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

Most recently, a teenage boy was injured a Humboldt Park neighborhood shooting on the West Side.

The 15-year-old was walking in the 3900 block of West Thomas about 11:35 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up and someone got out and shot him in the lower leg, police said. The shooter got back in the vehicle, which drove off east on Thomas. The teen was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.

About an hour earlier, a woman was shot in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The 29-year-old was sitting on a porch in the 11700 block of South Morgan about 10:30 p.m. when a male got out of light-colored sedan and shot her in the ankle, police said. She was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where he condition stabilized.

About 9:30 p.m., three people were shot in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

Two 24-year-old men and a 25-year-old woman were sitting in a parked vehicle in the 5700 block of South Peoria Street when a sedan drove up and a male offender shot at the group from inside the car, police said. One of the 24-year-old men suffered gunshot wounds to the lower back and right leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition was stabilized. The other 24-year-old man was shot in the buttocks, and the 25-year-old woman was shot in the right forearm. Both were driven to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, where their conditions were stabilized. The two men and the woman are not cooperating with the investigation, police said.

About 7:40 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The boy was shot in the left leg in the 2800 block of West Madison Street, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. Police believe the shooting may have been a drive-by attack.

No one has been taken into custody in connection with the shootings as area detectives investigate.
