1 Dead, 3 Injured in South Shore Shooting

Three people were critically injured and one person was shot dead by Chicago Police Wednesday night in the Southeast Side’s South Shore neighborhood.

Emergency crews responded to the shooting at 71st Street and Paxton Avenue just before 7 p.m., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said.

Police were responding to a call of an aggravated battery at the address and discovered three gunshot victims. A fourth victim was shot by police at 71st and Merrill Avenue, according to a police source.

Mark Payne, of the Independent Police Review Authority, which investigates all police-involved shootings, confirmed a person was shot dead by Chicago Police but could not provide further details at 7:45 p.m.

One person was found shot dead and three others were taken to area hospitals in critical condition, Roccasalva said. Two of the injured people were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and one other person was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
