1 Injured After SUV Crashes into Post Office

An Orland Park Post Office customer was injured Thursday after an SUV drove through the Post Office’s front window, officials said.

The Orland Fire Department responded to the incident, which took place around 1:09 p.m. at the Orland Park Post Office at 144th Street, after a mid-sized SUV plowed through the office’s front window.

The driver was not injured in the crash but a Post Office customer inside the building sustained injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment, according to authorities.

The injured woman was reported in good condition with minor injuries, according to a release from Fire Chief Ken Brucki.

"We had paramedics on the scene immediately. Only one individual was taken to the hospital but I understand she is in good condition, with only minor injuries. We also had trained personnel on scene to assess the structure of the building itself to insure it did not suffer any structural damage. It did not so once it is cleaned up and the windows are boarded, it should be re-opened to the public,"

The driver was an elderly woman, officials said, but her exact age was not immediately known.

Firefighters said there did not appear to be any major structural damage to the building and worked with Postal employees to remove debris and salvage property.
