One woman is dead after a car crash in the south suburbs Friday afternoon, though her family is thankful her infant daughter survived.
Authorities said 26-year-old Janeka Hicks was driving northbound on Pulaski near 136th St in Robbins around 3:30 p.m. when the car lost control, crossing the lanes and striking another vehicle head on, according to police.
Both cars jumped the curb after the collision, resulting in a scene witnesses called horrific.
"They had to literally tear the doors open and claw them out," said Debra Foster, who saw the chaotic crash unfold.
Hicks, her four-month-old daughter Journey, and the 37-year-old driver of the other car were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where Hicks was pronounced dead, according to officials.
Her family is mourning their loss, but thankful that Journey survived.
"We are hurting because she was a special girl," said Hicks' uncle Pastor Al Hicks. "She had a lot going on, she was working mother and also in school."

He called it a miracle that Journey hardly had any scratches at all.
