1 Dead After Metra Train Strikes Car

1 man is dead after a Metra train struck a car on Chicago's Far South Side Sunday evening. 

The Rock Island District train #126 left Joliet at 6:15 p.m., according to a Metra spokesperson, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 7:25 p.m.

At 7:10 p.m., the train struck a car near 119th St and Marshfield Ave., according to the Chicago Fire Department. Officials said an adult male was declared dead on the scene. 

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

The train is stopped at the scene of the crash, and an outbound train scheduled to leave Chicago at 8:10 p.m. will not operate, according to a Metra spokesperson. The outbound train departing at 8:40 p.m. is expected to leave on time.

No further information on the victim's identity or any other injuries as released.
