1 Dead, 5 Injured in West Side Crash

One woman was pronounced dead at Norwegian American Hospital

One person was killed and five others were injured in a crash on Chicago's West Side Saturday morning, officials said.

The accident happened around 4:25 a.m. when in a vehicle crashed into a pole then a viaduct near North and Kenton Avenues, according to police.

Officials said three women had to be extricated from the vehicle. An 18-year-old woman was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, another went to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and a third was taken to Norwegian American Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A fourth woman who was not extricated was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. Two men, ages 25 and 18, who were also in the vehicle, later walked into West Suburban Medical Center for treatment, police said.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known Saturday.
