1 Dead, 4 Hurt in South Shore Shooting

Five people were shot, one of them fatally, when a gunman opened fire on a crowd standing on a sidewalk on Chicago's South Side Thursday night, police said.

The group was standing on the sidewalk just after 10:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of East 71st Street when police say someone in a tan-colored minivan fired shots.

Two teens, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old, were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The 18-year-old, who was shot in the head, was later pronounced dead.

The 19-year-old suffered wounds to the abdomen and groin, police said.

Two 21-year-old men took themselves to Jackson Park Hospital, one with a gunshot wound to the buttocks and the other shot in the left leg and back. Both were listed in stable condition.

Another 18-year-old man was taken to Trinity Hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the left wrist.

Police say the men shot were documented gang members.
