1 Dead, 1 Wounded in Lawndale Shooting

No one is in custody and Area North detectives are investigating.

A man was fatally shot and another was wounded while sitting in a vehicle early Saturday in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood, police said.

Two men were sitting in a parked vehicle in the 1100 block of South Mozart Street when shots were fired at 2:15 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

Ronnie Chambers, 34, was shot in the head and died at the scene, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. His home address was not yet known.

A 21-year-old man was taken in “stable” condition to Mount Sinai Hospital with gunshot wounds to the left shoulder and buttocks, police said.

No one is in custody and Area North detectives are investigating.
