What Olympian Conor Dwyer Would Give Up for a Cubs World Series

Winnetka’s Conor Dwyer, proud owner of a brand new individual bronze medal and his second career relay gold medal, told NBC 5 what would mean even more to him than the hard-earned hardware that hangs around his neck.

A Chicago Cubs World Series.

“I think if the Cubs win it, it might be better than all the medals I’ve had, I mean it’s been since 1908!" Dwyer told NBC 5 Wednesday night. "I don’t know what the city will do if we win one ... they just have Wrigley Field bouncing off the walls right now, and if they do get one, I want to be there.”

Dwyer competed in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay Tuesday, an event in which he won gold during the 2012 London Games alongside current teammates Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte.

Dwyer got his first individual Olympic medal when he earned the bronze during the men's 200m freestyle Monday night.

He finished behind Chad le Clos of South Africa, and 2012 silver medalist Sun Yang of China, who outsprinted le Clos in the final 50 meters to win gold in 1:44.65.

Dwyer finished 4th in the 400m freestyle finals Saturday night and perhaps that disappointment gave him the surge necessary for an impressive performance Sunday and Monday.
