The number of grandparents who've had to take over the primary role of bringing up their grandchildren has doubled in the last 40 years. That responsibility is taking a toll, especially on grandmothers, according to researchers at the University of California.
With less time on their hands, grandmothers are neglecting their own health when it comes to getting mammograms, pap smears, cholesterol checks, even flu shots.
After a couple of years of parenting, grandmothers begin to find enough time for the cholesterol checks and flu shots, but they still aren't getting the required mammograms of pap smears.
