Changes Coming to Oak Forest Hospital?

A public hearing is planned to discuss making the hospital outpatient

Big changes could be coming to Oak Forest Hospital, county officials say.

The Cook County Health and Hospital System applied to the state's health facilities board to end inpatient care, emergency services and surgeries at the south suburban hospital, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The 213-bed hospital reports a decline in admitted patients, and as a result, the county wants to turn the facility into an outpatient primary care center. The change would save $25 million.

Officials plan to hold a public hearing Thursday to discuss the changes.
