Coronavirus by the Numbers: COVID Metrics From Each of Illinois' 11 Health Care Regions

As Illinois approaches the anticipated start date of its so-called “Bridge Phase” between Phases 4 and 5 of its coronavirus reopening plan, positivity rates continue to decrease, but ICU bed usage remains mostly steady in most locations.

According to the latest data from the Illinois Department of Public Health, at least three of the state’s health care regions are currently below 20% ICU bed availability. That includes Region 1, located in the northwestern part of the state, and Region 2, located just to the south and encompassing a wide swath of western and central Illinois.

Even still, hospitalizations are largely dropping in the state, including in Region 2, where hospitalization rates have either decreased or remained steady on nine of the last 10 days.

Here is where things stand as of Sunday:

Region 1 (Northwest Illinois):

Positivity Rate: 5% (steady)

ICU Bed Availability: 18% (steady)

Hospitalization Trends: 8/10 days decreasing or steady

Region 2 (West-Central Illinois):

Positivity Rate: 4.5% (decreasing)

ICU Bed Availability: 16% (steady)

Hospitalization Trends: 9/10 days decreasing or steady

Region 3 (West Illinois):

ICU Bed Availability: 21% (decreasing)

Region 4 (Southwest Illinois):

Positivity Rate: 3% (increasing)

ICU Bed Availability: 37% (decreasing)
