Chicago financier James Tyree could be the Sun-Times Superman.
The CEO of Mesirow Financial Inc., told Crain's he's put together a group of investors to resuscitate the bankrupt Sun-Times Media Group Inc.
Tyree has reportedly reviewed the financials of the Sun-Times and likes what he sees. He's discussed a potential bid with CEO Jeremy Halbreich that would "keep this great institution in Chicago."
Since filing for bankruptcy on March 31, the publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times and 58 surburban papers has been shopped around by investment bank Rothschild Inc.
"The process is just getting started," a Sun-Times spokeswoman told Crain's, declining to comment further.
