Illinois Metals Company Moving to Indiana

Company lured to Indiana with tax credits, other incentives

Another Illinois company plans to close its doors here and move its operations to neighboring Indiana.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. announced Saturday that Special Metals Corp. in Rockford  will movie its A-1 Wire division to a plant in Elkhart, Ind., in September.

The move is expected to create up to 100 new jobs in Indiana by 2014.  Currently, Special Metals employs 25 people in Elkhart.

The company was offered performance-based tax credits and training grants based on the company's job creation plans, according to the IEDC.

Special Metals Corp. joins at least 10 other companies that have announced plans to move some or all of their operations from Illinois to Indiana this year.
