Costco Bringing Store to South Loop

161,000 square-foot warehouse will feature several specialty sections

Starting next week, South Loop residents will be able to buy everything from vitamins to tires to Ramen Noodles in bulk.

Costco is set to open its second Chicago location next week on Thursday, June 28 at the intersection of Ashland Avenue and 14th Street.

“We are thrilled to be bringing Costco’s low warehouse prices to the residents of Chicago,” said Warehouse Manager Brian Thomas in a statement. “They have been asking us to open here for a long time, and it’s a great feeling to have such a warm welcome."

The new, membership-required one-stop-shop, actually a 161,000 square-foot warehouse, will include all the usual specialty departments such as a Gas Station, specialty sections for baked goods, meat, produce and deli products, and a Tire Center.

The giant warehouse will also offer a Pharmacy where shoppers can pick up prescriptions. This will be useful for shoppers visiting the store's Optical Department with Independent Doctor of Optometry. And of course, while waiting for the prescription to be filled, customers can stave off starvation at the Food Court.

The Issaqua, Wash. company has 17 stores in Illinois, 437 nationwide and 604 worldwide, with 65 million total cardholders. Costco is known for offering quality merchandise at low costs in bulk quantities.
