An Amtrak spokesperson says several people were injured when a train from Chicago heading to Pontiac Michigan derailed.
Marc Magliari with Amtrak says there are no serious or life threatening injuries, but 12 people were receiving medical treatment.
The Amtrak Wolverine Service Train 350 carrying 178 people derailed at around 9:10 a.m. near Niles, Michigan.
Service is disrupted and will remain so until at least mid afternoon said Magliari.
Passengers not injured were evacuated and put on charter buses.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
