Chicago police are investigating after two men were shot to death at a tennis court on the city’s Northwest Side Monday afternoon.

According to authorities, two men were standing near the street in the 1300 block of East Luis Munoz Marin Drive at approximately 3:04 p.m. when they were approached by two men who pulled out weapons and began to fire shots at them.

A 34-year-old man was struck in the head and chest, and a 35-year-old man was hit in the chest, police said.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the suspects was taken into custody, and two weapons were recovered at the scene, according to police.

The Cook County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 34-year-old Devel Jones and 35-year-old Antwon Gee were the victims shot and killed in Humboldt Park, just steps away from where kids were playing and families were gathering to enjoy the beautiful weather.

Sashay Woods spoke lovingly about Jones, her older brother, saying that he was a good man who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“My brother, he’s a hard-working man and loving brother and best uncle,” she said. “People don’t think this is their last day….he don’t deserve to be laying here.”

Woods says that Jones and Gee were best friends, and that they were spending a quality day off together.

“That was my protector, and I don’t got him no more,” she said.
