It's safe to say that this guy won't make the field at this year's Kentucky Derby, but with the "greatest two minutes in sports" and Cinco de Mayo occurring on the same date this year, May 5th promises to be a festive one for area bars and restaurants. Here's a roundup of what's on the agenda at some area hot spots.
Barrio Urban Taqueria is hosting an all-day Cinco fiesta with tequila specials and musicians including a Spanish guitarist and DJs.
River North's Cantina Laredo will be the site of a live 670 The Score radio broadcast Saturday at 11 a.m. and will offer guests a chance to win a trip to Mexico. At 3 p.m., the Chicago Mambo All-Stars will perform until 11 p.m. with dance instructors from Miguel Mendez's Dance Academy of Salsa helping you find your rhythm.
Rockit Burger Bar celebrates Derby from 3-6 p.m. with Derby-themed drinks and bites. Tickets are $25 and benefit the University of Chicago Kovler Diabetes Center. Pick the winning horse and enter for a chance to win prizes. Derby attire is suggested.
Tavern On Rush will be holding its annual Kentucky Derby party starting at 9am. Ladies will be treated to a long stem rose and guests are encouraged to dress in their Derby finest -- including a bottle of Dom Perignon to the person with the best hat. A special Derby menu will also be available.

Elgin's Porter’s Pub throws a "Kentucky de Mayo" Party, a day-long celebration featuring Mint Julep and Mexican beer drink specials, along with Kentucky Hot Browns and a taco bar.
What better place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than the Pilsen neighborhood. Douglas Park will be filled with mariachi bands, food trucks, family events and a parade at noon. 1401 S. Sacramento Blvd.

Celebrate Cinco with crazy chickens, wrestling midgets and sexy burlesque dancers as Lucha Vavoom takes over the Park West on Saturday night. Show starts at 9:30 p.m. Tickets start at $25.
Old Town Social celebrates the Kentucky Derby with handcrafted Mint Juleps and Pimm’s Cups, Kentucky race day specials and a festive pig roast on the outdoor patio. A $250 gift card will be awarded to the winner of the best hat and best seersucker suit contest. Doors open at 11 am.

Pioneer Tavern Group hosts its second annual Cinco de Mayo Dos Equis Trolley Crawl between Lottie’s Pub, The Pony and Frontier. The trolleys will be stocked with Dos Equis beer of course and guests can win $100 gift cards and other raffle prizes. The trolley is free and pick-up begins at each location at 7 p.m. and runs until 12 a.m.

Roots Handmade Pizza throws a "Cinco De Derby Party" featuring horse racing on the big screens all day long and Cinco revelry all day and night. Themed food and drink specials will be offered from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Wicker Park's The Fifty/50 throws a "Cinco De Derby Party" party with the races shown on TVs during the day and Cinco revelry all night. Derby and Cinco-themed specials will be available from 11am until 3am. The patron with the best mustache wins a free party package.

Nacional 27 will host a Cinco de Mayo celebration from 5pm to 3am. Dig in to half-priced tacos in the lounge from 5-7pm or sample a special prix fixe menue by Chef Chico Vilchez. The party continues on the dance floor with Latin beats by DJ X from 7-11pm.

Mahoney’s Pub & Grille and She-nannigans House of Beer will get the Cinco party started early by throwing parties on Friday and Saturday. the “Cinco de Ogden” celebration includes a live B-96 radio broadcast from 6-8 p.m. and live music afterward. There's no cover charge and an authentic, roaming mariachi band will entertain all along Division Street.
