"Due to these tragic economic times, I have been working with what I believe to be the most economical, yet environmentally friendly mode of transportation. Fuel used is plentiful and the emissions are completely biodegradable and recyclable! But alas there are some drawbacks. Lack of speeds over 25 mph, engine that sometimes has a mind of its own and emissions (though biodegradable) that are not always appreciated by the greater driving public. A Vespa would provide an equally economical ride without the unsightly emission deposits!"

"My ride is a 1992 plymouth voyager. it no longer runs reliably so I have to find something else to use. I am retired and living on a fixed income. I like to help out at the local food pantry and assisted living facility close to my house. I have a reduced fare pass but funds are tight. I have given back to those who need help desperately and only want to continue doing so. A new vespa would allow me the ability to get around much more economically."

"I need this Vespa more than anyone else. This is especially true today, since I actually hit a deer with my minivan about three hours ago and have no ride period. I swear I didnt do it for sympanthy votes!"

"Tough trying to seel life/health insurance with this ride."

"I need new wheels -- in March 2007 I underwent surgery, could not walk and sold my car. I've been recovering from a spinal cord injury; I've transitioned from a wheel-chair to a walker and now can walk using canes, see attachment of my current ride. I am in the final stages of Physical Therapy and plan to be walking, without canes and driving within a few months. As a young 67 year old US Marine veteran, living in Schaumburg, I'll be the talk of the town riding my new Vespa Scooter."

"Fender benders. Bumper bumps. Sideswipes. You name it, this car's got it. But that's just the beginning. Both mirrors are held on with glue and screws. The air conditioning is out (did someone say record heat levels this summer?). All four wheels are deteriorating. And just this week, the brakes went out. Don’t worry, I narrowly avoided another fender bender. Give this car a break and put it out of its misery. Please."

"My car speaks for itself as to why I need a new ride!!! My car is on its last lifeline. Well, first of all my car sounds like a generator running when I start it up. I have to turn completely around to look back when I'm backing up. The turn signals don't work and sometimes smoke comes out of the steering wheel when you cut on the turn signals because I think the wires are crossed up somehow and sometimes the turn signals won't shut off. In this picture, I was driving down the street and the front left side tire just rolled off the car!!!"

"IT’S A ’92 RIVIERA – THAT’S THE DEALnNEARLY 235,000 MILES – I KNOW THAT’S UNREAL... I DRIVE 70 MILES EACH DAY TO WORK. AND HAVE ENDURED ITS EACH AND EVERY QUIRK... ONLY 15 MILES TO THE GALLON, FRIENDS SAY IT WOULD BE CHEAPER GIVING AN APPLE TO A STALLION... IT’S BEEN OVER-TOWED TO THE CHAGRIN OF TRIPLE- A, AND NOW THEY WON’T DO IT AGAIN ANY DAY... THE MOTOR BIKE WOULD ‘SAVE THE DAY’, AND SAVE THE ECONOMY AND EVEN ‘EARTH DAY’... THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO MY TALE OF WOE, HOPE TO WIN THE BIKE TO 'KEEP ON THE GO'"

"We want to retire to a condo in the city and my tractor just won't cut it there! I would love to have a Vespa to romp around downtown Chicago."

"Let me tell you about the '99 minivan that's been dubbed the "swagger wagon:" The rear, driver-side window is held on by duct tape (unless it's sunny, and then the tape melts and the window kind of just dangles). The driver-side back door doesn't open. The passenger-side rear-view mirror is held on with electric tape (works much better than the aforementioned window), and the front passenger window won't go up (or down, but it's stuck halfway, which is kind of a bummer when it rains). It’s been a pretty faithful ride, but I’d gladly swap it for a Vespa!"

This ride has two flat tires and is buried away in the shed.

"I need a new ride because my truck is horrible on gas but I can't get rid of it because I need it for work. A scooter would be perfect for me for all the driving I do around town."

"My mom definitely needs a new ride. If she wants to go anywhere she has to use her granddaughters toy pink beetle car. ;)"

"I would love to send you a picture of my current ride, however, what you will see in the attached photo is my daughter pointing at the empty spot in my garage where my bike used to be. Both my bike and my husband's bike were stolen from our garage in Wicker Park last weekend. Bummer!"

"I'm retired and on a subsistence fixed income. I can't afford a car. My only ride is a 15-year-old bicycle. Some of the places I would like to and need to get to require riding on the street, since they are not connected by sidewalks or bike paths. A scooter would make getting around much easier most of the year. I might even be able to get a part-time job again to help get by."

"My main mode of transportation is walking (or begging people for a ride to places). I would love a new Vespa so I don't have to rely so heavily on others to get me places (I'm sure my friends and family get annoyed with having to always pick me up and drive me around), and walking can be problematic, given the recent heat and rainy weather."

My daughter "was hit from behind and which caused an four-car accident, rear and front end damage... She worked hard to buy the car and now it is totaled... Its hard to find a used car for the amount of money she got."

My husband "put together his own motor cycle and he drives it most of the year. It's been leaking oil from the start it has a cracked oil tank. He leaks oil all the way to work and back. He also has parts fall off on the way to work and he has to weld them together all the time."

"Although Honda cars are usually good on gas I have had so many problems with this vehicle I recently purchased. I tried changing the brakes and all the bolts were rusted on forcing me to spend more money buying replacement parts. The gas mileage is also not good because the exhaust is rusted through and hanging off. More money down the drain for replacement parts."

"I have an inexpensive Chinese-made scooter that has had nothing but problems since I bought it in 2009. I've had to rebuild the engine and replace many miscellaneous parts just to stay mobile. I can't count the number of times I've had to call a friend with a pickup truck to rescue my scooter after yet another breakdown."

"This is why I need a vespa. My feet hurt! Ouch!"

"This was my wife's car. I was driving it to work one morning and was involved in an accident. My wife has no car, and it's all thanks to me."

"My daughter is a 26 years old and recently was in a serious car accident.... She’s currently driving her 88-year-old grandfather’s car so she can get to work and to classes. The car needs to be returned to her granddad soon."

"Buba used my VW as a hot tub, now the electrical system is all messed up."

Annie Schweitzer
"In the last year I (and some family members who have borrowed my vehicle) have acquired an up absurd amount of parking tickets to the point of being booted twice, causing me to have paid for the most expensive pair of boots I've ever bought and cannot even wear. My last boot alone cost me nearly $1,000."

John Flynn
"It's really bad on gas and with me starting at Northern Illinois University as a student the Vespa would be more practical."

Ivona Osman
"This is my sons car. He had it for quite a while now. It's a pretty old car and it reeks of water damage."

"My current 2003 Ford Windstar Mini Van, when it was new, provided about 18 mpg... now somewhere in the neighborhood of 14MPG on a good day with the wind at your back."

Mike Hickman
"My catalytic converter is broken and I cannot afford to fix it. I'm afraid that my car contributes to global warming every time I drive it. I like to think that my daughter will have a bright future in a green world but I can't promise her anything while driving my wheeled carbon producer that gets about 14 miles to the gallon."

Jenn Teuber
"My current ride is a 1990 (I think) Yamaha Razz 50. It’s got over 7,000 miles and has worked pretty well for quite a while. It has since been giving me problems – doesn’t want to start, headlamp won’t stay on, horn sounds funny, no acceleration – uhh! Had it in the Yamaha shop and they say its fine… I just think it’s old and tired and I need a new one!"

"After working a double shift .. I got out around midnight to find I was one wheel short of a ride... Now my bike needs me to give it a ride. I would be extremely grateful to be able to replace my stolen Ambrosio Italian bike wheel with a new set of Italian wheels."

Steve Smith
"I think that I need a new ride since my current one only gets about 300ft a gallon and Truman was still president when it was new!"

"My girlfriend loved her Vespa. She parked it in her loft on Western Avenue like a piece of modern furniture and gave it the sexy name “la Avispa.” I admit now that I had an almost canine jealousy of it but I swear this had nothing to do with the accident. I was riding it, alone. My heart sang until I was run off the road and straight into the back of a hearse that was waiting for a body! I was miraculously unharmed but la Avispa was destroyed. I need to atone."

Annette Moser
"I drove this car 105 miles each way for three years to work. It has 190,000 miles and needs tires again! It is just a matter of time before I need an engine."
