The Macy's Great Tree is 45 feet tall with more than 2,000 ornaments and 15,000 LED lights. It will be on display through Jan. 8, 2012.

Vice President and General Manager of Macy's on State Street, Linda Piepho announces the lighting of the tree. In addition to the tree, Macy's will create "Steam Punk" window displays entitled "The Wish Factory", turning wishes into ornaments.

Giuliana and Bill Rancic helped open the "Believe" stations that feature a "Believe" meter, letter-writing station, and mailbox to Santa in every Macy's store. For each letter, Macy's will make a donation to Make-A-Wish foundation. Children from Make-A-Wish foundation joined the Rancics in lighting the tree.

In addition to the lighting of the tree, Macy's Santaland opened. Children can visit Santa on the weekends until Dec. 24.

"The Great Tree" is surrounded by 14 seven foot trees adorned with ornaments by Macy's celebrity designers. Macy's reports the tree is energy efficient, only consuming 1/3 of the power of the previous trees.
