The James Chicago is one of the city's newer hotel properties, opening its doors five years ago. But in the competitive hospitality world, that's long enough to warrant an update -- or as the hotel is terming it, a Refresh. The hotel has completed a revamp to it's 297 rooms that includes new custom-designed furniture and high-tech amenities with an eye toward being environmentally-friendly.

The James hosts 26 one-bedroom apartment suites, designed in a residential style with a living room, separate bedroom, dining niche and snack and cocktail bar.

David Burke's Primehouse restaurant also received some updates, with design touches from architect Deborah Burke.

Guest rooms start at $250 at The James with suites priced up to $2,500.
