Zhou B Art Center Hosts Works by Contemporary Mexican Artists

The burgeoning contemporary art scene in Mexico City will be the focus of an exhibition at the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood. "Arte de la Ciudad," or "Art of the City," brings together 20 artists from Mexico's capital city, including Pablo Castillo, Tatiana Montoya and Curro Gomez. The exhibition opens on Friday, November 14 and continues through January 5.

Bucking the long-standing tradition of galleries overseen by the government, Mexico City is currently enjoying an art renaissance. Independent exhibition spaces, artist-run collectives and special salons are making the city a destination for American and European art aficionados and collectors alike. These galleries have sourced talent from around the world to showcase, so, while the "Arte de la Ciudad" exhibition will mostly feature Mexican artists, there will also be a definite international appeal.
