Woman Attacked Near DePaul

A woman jogging in the DePaul neighborhood was attacked early Monday just a few blocks from campus.

A community alert has been issued warning neighborhood residents to be aware of their surroundings, not to walk or jog while listening to headphones or talking on a cell phone and avoid areas that block visibility, and recommended that people jog or walk in the street.

The 23-year-old woman was out running between 6 and 7 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Wrightwood Avenue, when a man grabbed her and pulled her to the ground.

The man fled when the victim screamed for help.

The alert, issued by the 43rd Ward office, described the man as Hispanic, between the ages of 25 and 30, 5-feet 5-inches to 5-feet 7 inches tall, weighing 160 to 190 pounds, with brown eyes and an olive complexion. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt with dark pants at the time of the assault, and fled in a late-model, four-door, light blue Nissan.
