Wish Upon a Star

Take a holiday shopping break this Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Chicago Cultural Center

Long lines. Frigid temperatures. Slush and snow. There's not much to be excited about as you trudge out this weekend to knock off a few more names on your holiday shopping list. Before you lose your cool and let a complete stranger have it when he cuts in front of you in the checkout line on the last shopping Saturday before Christmas, take a festive break at the Chicago Cultural Center at 3 p.m.

The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs presents When You Wish Upon A Star: The Magic of a Disney Holiday, a free holiday concert featuring songs like 'When You Wish Upon A Star,' 'Bella Note,' 'O Holy Night' and 'Let It Snow, Let It Snow.' There's nothing like a little Disney music to bring down the blood pressure. Performers include some of Chicago's top cabaret stars such as Beckie Menzie, Tom Michael, Michelle Bradley, Rob Dorn and Laura Freeman.  Admission is free, but seating is limited, so try to get there early to soak up the holiday atmosphere. If the blood sugar is getting a little low, you can grab some hot chocolate, coffee and holiday goodies at the Café at the Cultural Center before the show; it's open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
