What Is That Thing?

Have you seen it yet? It's a gigantic, 15-foot, red vinyl ball and it appears to be moving around Chicago. Really. If you have spotted it, rest assured that you are not losing your mind. You have merely stumbled upon the latest public art installation from artist Kurt Perschke. Like a gigantic dodgeball, Perschke's creation is on a global tour having already made appearances in cities from Sydney to Barcelona and it's currently bouncing its way around Chicago during the month of September.

Stopping at landmarks including Union Station and The Field Museum, the curious orb is meant to trigger the imagination and, well, you know, stop you in your tracks and make you wonder. So if you do come across it, do not be shy. Viewing is free and touching is encouraged. For more information and a schedule of stops, visit redballproject.com.
